Jared Polis Foundation Teacher Recognition Awards

Nominations Due TODAY at 5pm

The Jared Polis Foundation is still seeking nominations for its 2011 Teacher Recognition Awards. The nomination process is simple. Click here to review the rules, then submit a 1 to 1.5 page nomination. The honoree will win $1,000 and their school will win a $1,000 teacher-directed grant. This is a great opportunity to honor a star teacher and earn money for your school. The deadline is today at 5pm, don't delay!

 

Call for Presenters!

The Pinnacle is hosting "Sharpening Instruction," A Conference for Colorado Charter School Educators, October 28, with Keynote Speaker: Mr. Bob Schaffer. Sign up to be a Presenter or Facilitator at the Conference. The success of the conference is dependent on having great Colorado Educators share their knowledge and expertise. If you are interested in presenting, click here to obtain the Call for Presenter form. Each presenter will receive $25 or $50 if they present and facilitate a roundtable. If you have questions, please contact Julie Aragon at jaragon@pinnaclecsi.org or call 303-450-3985, ext. 143.

 

Loveland Classical Schools Looking for Furnishings

Loveland Classical Schools recently received their charter approval. They've secured a facility, and now need help to get it furnished! They are in need of multiple school furnishings such as desks, chairs, bookshelves, projectors, kitchen equipment, playground equipment, dictionaries, etc. If you or your school has items to donate, please email: tcramer@lovelandclassical.org.

 

2011 Colorado Charter Schools Essay Contest
Colorado charter school students, it's time to sharpen your pencils (or charge up your laptops) and tell us why your charter school rocks. Chuggin' for Charters

Run, jog, walk, or volunteer with the Colorado League of Charter Schools at the 2011 Kaiser Permanente Colfax Marathon on Sunday, May 15. Simply register for the Colfax Marathon (as a runner or volunteer), then collect pledges. All proceeds will benefit Colorado League of Charter Schools programming for member schools including advocacy, professional development, and more. Click here to learn more.

State finds another $75 million

The committee got one piece of good news - that the executive branch Office of State Planning and Budgeting had underestimated state revenues this year by $75.5 million. That's of note because the JBC is using the OSPB forecast in its effort, rather than the more optimistic forecast made recently by the Legislative Council staff.

Provost Academy Colorado Receives Positive Reviews from Students and Parents During First Year

Recent results from a survey of current Provost Academy Colorado students and parents report that 97 percent are satisfied with the overall quality of the education they are receiving, during the school's first year of operation. Also, 98 percent of those surveyed highly recommend the online school to those families seeking the more engaging and personalized online learning experience offered by Provost Academy.

ACLU opposed to voucher plan

The Douglas County Board of Education recently approved a pilot program to offer up to 500 families nearly $5,000 each of taxpayer money to subsidize their tuition payments at private schools next fall. Almost all of the eligible schools are religious.

This two-day seminar focuses on each participant's effective design, creation, and use of performance assessments that are the foundation of powerful standards-based instructional and assessment tools. Performance assessments are a powerful teaching and learning tool that make differentiated instruction and assessment possible.

High Point Academy Playground Community Build

Performance Management Training for Boards

Description: Introduces charter school boards to internal and external accountability expectations and outlines the board's responsibility in maintaining a strong performance management system within their school. This training will educate charter school board members about their role in monitoring the academic program and results at their school. The training will also provide boards with tools and resources to assist in the role of appropriate oversight and evaluation. The focus of this session is on understanding student performance data, key questions board members should know how to answer, and how boards can establish sound practices in providing academic performance oversight and monitoring. Other topics typically included are key school performance expectations and measures as well as state and authorizer performance expectations and measures.
